Harlow College Students Compete In Regional Enterprise Challenge
Harlow College students are excited to be competing at the regional 'Perfect Pitch' event with students from schools and colleges across the South at Southampton FC's St Mary's Stadium on Friday 18th November. The event is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week and the team from the College are competing for the overall 'Perfect Pitch' Award for the best business concept and presentation.
The event will consist of an inspirational talk from a budding local entrepreneur and is focused around giving students the chance to pitch their business ideas to a live audience of fellow entrepreneurs and local businesses. Harlow College students, a mixture of graphics, hospitality and catering, who previously took part in an Unloc Enterprise Academy day will be attending the event with their own business idea created from scratch. Their team is called 'Le Monde', and is focused on improving the College restaurant by increasing the choice of menu for people with specific dietary requirements and by using more locally sourced food. On the day, the students impressed the panel of judges and were successful in winning the overall day award. However, now it is time for 'Le Monde' to compete against other Enterprise Day winners for the 'Perfect Pitch' award.
During the evening, students will be pitching to a live audience. The audience will be filled with a range of professionals including the Federation of Small Businesses, local entrepreneurs and big companies, giving them the opportunity to grow their idea and take their businesses to the next step.
The winning team will go away with a 'trial fund' of £200 to help cover their basic expenses whilst starting up, a mentor who is a member of the business community acting as an Unloc Enterprise Ambassador, help with starting their website as well as a collection of other useful prizes donated by our business supporters.
Manager Director of Unloc, Hayden Taylor, commented: "We are excited to see the students' ideas in action. The Unloc Enterprise Academy is delighted to be bringing our network together for this event and give the students the opportunity to test-run their pitches in front a live audience of supportive business people and entrepreneurs."
Karen Spencer, the Principal of Harlow College, said: "We are delighted to be working with Unloc - one of our key college values is to always be innovative and enterprising.
NEWS JUST IN...
We have just heard from the organisers of the event at Southampton.
"Unfortunately, the Harlow College team were unsuccessful in winning the overall event but the team at Unloc felt so passionately about their business idea that we have agreed to continue supporting them".
