National Apprenticeship Week
Harlow College Social Media Apprentice Ché Stubbington hosted an Emoji Photo Booth
It was a frantic week for College teams with the Apprenticeship Roadshow dropping in on three local schools – Mark Hall, Passmores & Epping St. John's – to present some fantastic Apprenticeship inspired activities.
The Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair held on Monday 9th March, showcasing 50 open Apprenticeship vacancies, was also very well attended by potential apprentices of all ages.
There was an Emoji Photo Booth hosted by Harlow College Social Media Apprentice Ché Stubbington, taste tests with the Hospitality team, an electrical buzzer game with our Electrical team and hairstyling with the Hairdressing team. Things got pretty lively at times as the teams were overwhelmed by the sheer number of students and their enthusiasm for the event!
All of the activities were run by apprentices and students from Harlow College.
Karen Spencer, Harlow College Principal:
“Harlow College is proud to work with a wide range of employers helping them to take on apprentices each year. Through our schemes we can equip people with the skills they need to build a successful career. More young people are now choosing apprenticeships as an alternative to university, appreciating the value of earning whilst learning.
"Our road shows this week have created a real buzz and excitement, as well as giving a real insight into apprenticeships as a career pathway.”
Tammy Bassett, Passmores Academy:
"Harlow College contacted Passmores Academy to ask if we would like them to attend our school with their Apprenticeship Road Show.
"We took them up on their offer immediately as we feel that all students should be aware of the opportunities available to them Post 16. The Roadshow activities were great and created a fantastic buzz, our students really got involved!
"Apprenticeships are a great way to stay in education but to also earn, which is what the vast majority of our young people are interested in doing."
Ché Stubbington, Social Media Apprentice in the Harlow College Marketing Team:
"I’m Harlow College’s first ever Social Media Apprentice. I absolutely love my job!
As an Apprentice myself, the roadshow was a creative way to get out there and shout about how fantastic apprenticeships really are.
"The roadshow activities were so much fun, the students flooded over to grab a taste test or get into our emoji booth!"
Jayne Youell, Harlow College Business Development Co-ordinator:
"It’s been a great week. We’ve got people excited about Apprenticeships and the extensive choice that’s available. Employers have been in touch about taking on new apprentices and we’ve visited several schools talking to young people about the opportunities for them once they finish GCSE’s.
"Our Apprenticeship recruitment event on Monday attracted nearly 100 visitors looking for work or a change of career and we are working hard to match they to a suitable employer.
The opportunities are there for anyone who wants to work, learn and earn and with over 3,500 Apprenticeship vacancies available just in Essex this week there is something out there for everyone!"
