Fleur Hounsell
Travel and Tourism student at Harlow College to Cabin Crew with Titan Airways
I studied the Level 3 Travel and Tourism and Level 2 Cabin Crew course at Harlow College in 2017 and went straight into a job with Titan Airways. I applied online for the position and before I knew it I was going through interviews and lots of training. I felt so proud as I was selected as one of 40 new Cabin Crew staff.
What’s a typical week in the travel industry?
With Titan there isn’t a typical week, every day is different. We could be providing private charters or flights for other companies whose aircraft are out of action. We will fly out and bring their passengers home. Sometimes we will have night stop overs, so I will be away for a few days at a time. I’ve already flown to lots of European destinations including Germany, France and Belgium. I’ve got a week in Berlin coming up.
What has been your favourite stop over?
I went to Berlin recently and it was lovely. All the crew were great – they make you feel really at home.
Do you get time to explore these countries?
If it’s a private charter, then I have quite a bit of time to explore, which is great.
Do you hope to fly worldwide?
Hopefully, once I’ve gained a bit more experience, I’ll get to go to places like the Bahamas. I’m really excited about that.
How did your course at Harlow College help you?
The Cabin Crew course, in particular, really helped, as the new Cabin room facilities at the College are great! You get to practice all the drills plus the service side and all of the security, so that really helped. It really helps being in an environment that actually feels like you are on a plane.
What is your ultimate ambition?
I love what I’m doing, so I hope to stay for as long as possible. I’ve always loved flying since I was little, so that has really helped.
