    About the course

    Take your first steps towards a career in the digital industry. You'll learn the skills to produce IT systems and software, websites and mobile apps, and video, graphics and animation.This  programme specialises in wide-ranging subjects across computer systems, hardware and software. IT is an ever-changing industry full of possibilities and this course will build your skills and understanding preparing you for further study.

    Entry requirements

    4 GCSEs Grades 2 - 3 or equivalent and minimum Level 1 diagnostic in Maths and English. A satisfactory pass at NVQ 1 or Introductory Diploma.

    How much does it cost?

    Age 16-18 free. Reduced fees may be available for 19+ learners. There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

    You will need to provide stationary, folder, textbook and a USB memory stick. Textbooks to be confirmed at enrolment. You are welcome to bring your own laptop, tablet, smartphone or any other technology needed.

    Why study?

    This is a practical work-related course, with two externally assessed examinations. You will be creating animation, graphics, video, audio, websites, spreadsheets and databases and you will learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification.

    Where will this course take me?

    Progress onto Level 3 (at least a Merit grade required) or employment/apprenticeship in IT.

    How will I be assessed?

    You will study three or four units each trimester. There will be two externally assessed unit examinations and the remaining units will be internally assessed. Each internal unit will be assessed through projects, assignments, presentations and observation of practical work. Throughout the programme, you will need to collect a portfolio of evidence showing how you have met the requirements of the program. Internal units are assessed and graded, added to the results of the examinations and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
