What is the UKSPF?

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is central to the UK government’s ambitious Levelling Up agenda, providing £2.6 billion of new funding for local investment by March 2025.

The main aim of the fund is to help boost productivity, pay, jobs and living standards and to restore a sense of community, local pride and belonging.

Harlow College is working with Uttlesford District Council and Harlow Council to provide free places on selected courses.

You are eligible to apply for a free space on one of our selected courses if you are:

  • Aged 19+
  • Live in Harlow or Uttlesford

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping (Online and On Campus)

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Foundation course is an entry-level bookkeeping qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic bookkeeping principles and skills.

This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. 

This Level 2 course is part-funded, so the cost for students is reduced. 

On successful completion of this course, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course. Please see information on progression.

Please note: classroom attendance is fortnightly, on every other Tuesday.

Cabin Crew

Location: Stansted Airport College

Stansted Airport flies to 190+ destinations and serves over £25million passengers per year and is expanding rapidly resulting in a demand for skilled cabin crew. This qualification will help you to gain an understanding of the role of cabin crew and provide you with the practical and technical skills to be able to progress into a career with a top airline. You will gain an appreciation of the terminology used within the industry as well as an understanding of the essential behaviours expected of future employees.

This course is for Adults looking to progress their careers in the aviation industry, looking to change career and work in the industry or Aviation enthusiasts wanting to gain a greater understanding of the Aviation industry and how it operates. 

CMI Level 3 Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership (Online and On Campus)

 The Diploma in Management and Leadership is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management. Staff study at college part-time and complete work-based projects as part of the course. This qualification is suitable for those who are, or wish to become, team leaders and/or supervisors. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career that wish to become team leaders/ supervisors as well as those aspiring or existing managers who may already have developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills further.

The course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.

CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and leadership (Online and On Campus)

The Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management, designed for middle managers, is designed to develop personal management capabilities and grow professional management skills including decision-making, managing team dynamics and delegation capability. Learners will complete a number of units and each unit will require a piece of work to be submitted and all deadlines will be provided during the induction.

In addition to monthly classes all learners will be expected to complete independent study outside of the classroom. This varies from week to week but could include set readings, research or gathering information from within the workplace.

Dementia Care – Level 3

Dementia is a global concern but it is most often seen in wealthier countries, where people are likely to live into very old age. The Alzheimer’s Society reports there are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. This course will help you to develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia including the types, effects and importance of early diagnosis, the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support and the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.

Domestic Air Source Heat Pump and Domestic Ground Source Heat Pump

This is a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. The qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.

This qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required to install and maintain heat pump systems and solar technology. You will cover topics such as: 
     - Size, select, install, commission and handover air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits). 
     - Plan, prepare and maintain air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits).

Early Years Practitioner Diploma – Adult Course Level 2

This one-year qualification is designed to equip you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to six years old, with a focus on applied knowledge for early years, specifically from 0 to 4 years.

The course content aligns with the Department for Education's (DfE) Level 2 criteria, ensuring it meets the requirements for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

The course is structured over one year, with one morning per week spent in college and a minimum of 16 hours in an Early Years setting. During the course, you will study topics such as:

  • The roles and responsibilities of an Early Years Practitioner
  • Health and safety for babies and young children in the early years
  • Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusive practices in Early Years settings

To successfully complete this qualification, you must be employed, volunteering, or undertaking a practical placement in a real work environment (RWE), allowing you to demonstrate both knowledge and skill competency.

A good level of English and maths is recommended. If you wish to improve your skills in these areas, you may have the opportunity to take a Functional Skills course alongside this qualification.

Level 3 & 4 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement with Vehicles Diagnosis, Testing and Repair

The Level 3 course is designed to build upon your current knowledge of working with electric/hybrid vehicles including how to work safely when carrying out repair activities on electric/hybrid vehicle high voltage systems. 

The Level 4 Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components is the first qualification of its kind to address working on live electric/hybrid high voltage vehicle systems and components. The qualification is essential to ensure the health and safety of individuals working on electric/hybrid vehicles. 

You will complete both levels over the course duration of 6 evenings. 

This combined course is designed specifically for technicians who are working on the maintenance and repair of electric/hybrid high voltage vehicle systems and components. Ideal for those working in the automotive industry or anyone who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. 

If you are a member of the IMI, you can use this qualification to gain IMI TechSafe™ accreditation, and therefore the ability to easily demonstrate to colleagues, customers and professionals that you’re fully qualified to be working on EV vehicles and/or vehicles with ADAS technologies.

Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools – Adult Course Level 2

The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.It’s aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

To successfully complete this qualification, you must be employed, volunteering, or undertaking a practical placement in a real work environment (RWE) to undertake a minimum of 100 hours work experience. 

A good level of English and maths is recommended. If you wish to improve your skills in these areas, you may have the opportunity to take a Functional Skills course alongside this qualification.

Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools – Adult Course Level 3

This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. It will enable learners to gain an understanding of elements including children and young people’s development and safeguarding their welfare. 

This qualification is ideal for those who are interested in working as a teaching assistant or a learning support assistant.

This course provides learners with the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded professionals from a variety of early years settings, exchange experiences, and share best practices.

To successfully complete this qualification, you must be employed, volunteering, or undertaking a practical placement in a real work environment (RWE) for a minimum of 16 hours per week, allowing you to demonstrate both knowledge and skill competency.

Working in the Early Years Sector (Early Years Educator)

The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:

• Assistant in Children's Centres
• Practitioner in nursery schools
• Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
• Pre-school worker

We have structured the units around three themes:• Theme 1: Health and well-being
• Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
• Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness

This course provides learners with the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded professionals from a variety of early years settings, exchange experiences, and share best practices.
