If you don't yet have an employer you can still apply for an apprenticeship while you continue to look. We can offer you advice on how to successfully secure an apprenticeship with an employer.

Business and Administration
Duration
Practical period - 15 months (this does not include EPA period).
Average EPA preparation period – 3 months.
Study Mode
Day release (1 day per week).
An additional half day may be required for apprentices working towards English & Maths achievement.
Entry Requirements
Minimum requirement: GCSE English and Maths at Grade 3, or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 1.
Apprentices who have not already achieved Level 2 in English and Maths must do so before taking the End-Point Assessment.
If you have not yet met the entry requirements above, additional support and guidance are available.
Occupation Summary
Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector. The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities.
Course Overview
The apprenticeship standard includes essential Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours vital for effective performance in the workplace.
Knowledge focuses on understanding the organisational structure, recognising the value of individual skills, fostering stakeholder relationships, adhering to relevant regulations, and grasping business fundamentals, as well as internal processes and external environmental factors.
Skills emphasise proficiency in IT, producing accurate records and documents, effective decision-making, interpersonal communication, quality assurance, planning and organisation, and project management.
Behaviours highlight the importance of professionalism, integrity, reliability, performance management, adaptability, and responsibility.
Collectively, these components are designed to equip individuals with the necessary tools for successful contributions and career advancement within their organisations.
End Point Assessment
The Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final assessment an apprentice must complete to successfully finish their apprenticeship.
The End Point Assessment for this standard consists of the following elements:
- Knowledge-based exam (online, 1 hour)
- Portfolio-based interview (with an independent assessor, 45 minutes)
- Project-based presentation (with an independent assessor, 30 minutes)
Progression Opportunities
The administration role may be a gateway to further career opportunities, such as:
- Management
- Senior support roles
After completing a Level 3 (advanced) apprenticeship, apprentices can apply to university. Many universities accept Level 3 apprenticeships, though specific entry requirements may vary.
