About the course
This course will provide you with a good knowledge of the development of babies and young children. You will gain an understanding of the stages and sequences of brain development, physical development and social skills. There is an opportunity to progress onto Level 3, (with the relevant GCSE's) or work as a qualified level 2 practitioner.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs Grades 2 - 3 or equivalent (this must include English at grade 3).
DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
How much does it cost?
Free to those aged 16-18. If you are aged 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.
There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.
£100 for educational visits and £20 for resources. There will be a charge of £50 for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Who is it suitable for?
Those who aspire to work with children in an Early Years setting or primary school. Progression opportunities onto a Level 3 course in Childcare.

Why study?
You will complete a planned observation of a child on placement, observing their growth and development. You will plan and prepare a nursery environment, indoor and outdoor on placement. You will also prepare a child friendly environment within the real working environment. You will lead play activities within placement and work in partnership with setting practitioners.
Where will this course take me?
Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator). Employment as a Level 2 Practitioner.
Core modules
All 14 units are required for the full Diploma. Including subjects such as:
- Understand how to support children's development

- Promoting positive behaviour

Will I have to provide anything?
Memory stick, two lever arch folders and general college resources. There will be additional costs for educational visits, plus a charge of £44 for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
