Practical period - 36 months (this does not include EPA period).

Average EPA preparation period – 3 months.

Study Mode

Day release (1 day per week).

An additional half day may be required for apprentices working towards English & Maths achievement.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirement: GCSE English and Maths at Grade 3, or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 1.

Apprentices who have not already achieved Level 2 in English and Maths must do so before taking the End-Point Assessment.

If you have not yet met the entry requirements above, additional support and guidance are available.

In larger dealerships, they collaborate with other departments, while in smaller garages, they may handle multiple functions. They must also ensure environmentally responsible waste disposal and consider sustainability in their work.

Course Overview

The apprenticeship standards for vehicle service and maintenance encompass vital knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for success in the automotive industry. Apprentices will gain an understanding of legislative and ethical requirements, the operational structure of the industry, and effective communication techniques to foster positive working relationships. Key skills include maintaining a safe workshop environment, conducting routine servicing and inspections, diagnosing faults, and completing complex repairs using diagnostic equipment. Apprentices are also trained in vehicle emissions standards and alternative fuel systems. Behaviourally, they will be required to take responsibility, collaborate effectively, and communicate openly with colleagues and customers, while continuously seeking improvement and contributing to business efficiency.

End Point Assessment

The Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final assessment an apprentice must complete to successfully finish their apprenticeship.

The End Point Assessment for this standard consists of the following elements:

• Online knowledge test
• Skills test
• Professional discussion
