Entry Requirements

Minimum requirement: GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4, or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 2.

64 UCAS Points or Relevant Level 3 Engineering Qualification.

Engineering Manufacturing Technicians work in various sectors, including automotive, aerospace, chemical processing, and marine, providing specialist technical support to engineers to develop, produce, or test products, processes, and procedures efficiently. They gather and analyse data, solve problems, and update technical documentation related to quality, reliability, production, and costing. These technicians collaborate with managers, production teams, and external stakeholders like customers and regulatory bodies, ensuring products meet quality, safety, and delivery standards. They split their time between office and manufacturing environments, have autonomy in decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvements in business processes and methods.

Course Overview

This apprenticeship standard focuses on the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours required in engineering and manufacturing. Key knowledge areas encompass problem-solving techniques, effective communication, lean methodologies, Industry 4.0 impacts, quality management systems, various manufacturing methods, safety regulations, project management, and sustainability principles. Skills are centred around data interpretation, project management, problem-solving, effective communication, and proficiency in software and financial planning. The expected behaviours prioritise safety, professionalism, continuous development, the adoption of advanced technologies, and the cultivation of strong, ethical relationships within the workplace.

Mandatory Qualification:

  • Level 4 HNC in Engineering 

End Point Assessment

The Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final assessment an apprentice must complete to successfully finish their apprenticeship.

The End Point Assessment for this standard consists of the following elements:

  • Observation with questioning
  • Professional Discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence

Progression Opportunities

You can use the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained to work in the Engineering industry as a fully qualified Engineering Manufacturing Technician.

This apprenticeship provides a good foundation for further study, allowing you to progress onto a Degree Apprenticeship, Higher National Diploma (HND), or a full-time degree programme.

Funding Your Course

If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study A Levels, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
