Study Mode

Day release (1 day per week)
An additional half day may be required for apprentices working towards English & Maths achievement.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirement: GCSE English and Maths at Grade 2, or Functional Skills English and Maths at Entry Level 3.

Apprentices who have not yet achieved Level 2 in English and Maths must continue working towards a Level 2 qualification, or an equivalent, in both subjects.

Occupation Summary

This occupation operates within the construction and built environment sector, maintaining properties across diverse industries such as housing, healthcare, education, and retail. The role of a property maintenance operative is to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, ensuring properties remain in good working order. Using a variety of trade skills, including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, and decorating, these operatives handle day-to-day tasks as well as planned and responsive repair work to optimise the quality and performance of different types of properties.

Course Overview

This property maintenance apprenticeship equips you with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and behaviours to succeed in the field. You’ll learn about planned preventative and reactive maintenance, building types, safety regulations, and the use of tools and equipment. With hands-on experience, you'll develop the ability to safely carry out electrical, plumbing, and drainage repairs, as well as tasks in carpentry, tiling, and decorating. The programme emphasises sustainable practices, health and safety, customer service, and effective communication, while encouraging continuous learning, teamwork, and promoting an inclusive work culture.

End Point Assessment

The Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final assessment an apprentice must complete to successfully finish their apprenticeship.

The End Point Assessment for this standard consists of the following elements:

  • Practical assessment with questions
  • Interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
  • Multiple-choice test

Progression Opportunities

The Level 2 qualification allows you to work as a qualified property maintenance operative in the construction industry.

This apprenticeship also provides transferable skills for progression into technical roles, such as electrical or plumbing, and supervisory positions in facilities management.

If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study A Levels, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
