About the course
To pursue a career in the security industry, obtaining an SIA licence is essential. This course will guide you through four key qualifications that will prepare you for a successful career in security.
Qualifications Included:
Level 1 Extended Certificate in Employability Skills: This qualification focuses on developing personal and social skills, tailored to meet the specific requirements of the security industry. Key units include:
- Effective communication in the workplace
- Individual rights and responsibilities in society
- Positive attitudes and behaviors at work
- Career progression
The course uses a project-based approach, where you'll work as part of a team on two projects:
- Project A: Searching for a job
- Project B: Setting up a security company (including Level 1 Award in Drug & Alcohol Awareness)
Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work: This qualification is mandatory for all SIA licensed security staff from April 2021. It covers critical first aid skills such as:
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident
- Performing CPR and providing aid for choking, external bleeding, and shock
Level 2 Award in Door Supervision: This nationally recognised qualification, required to work in the security industry, prepares you for the SIA exams. It includes both theoretical and practical training in areas like Physical Intervention, ensuring you're ready for employment as a Door Supervisor or in the Manned Guarding sector.
All courses are taught by experienced tutors with backgrounds in the security industry. Upon successful completion, Harlow College will fund your SIA licence.
Entry requirements
No formal qualifications are needed however, learners will be required to complete initial assessments in English and maths, with a minimum of Level 1 required in the English assessment.
Learners must be unemployed and in receipt of benefit or earning under £25,000 per annum.
Must have a National Insurance number.
Must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years or proof of right to education.

How will I be assessed?
Assessed through activities in class and continuous feedback given. Evidenced through completion of project workbooks, written assignment and practical observation.
