Duration
Practical period - 12 months (this does not include EPA period).
Average EPA preparation period – 1 months.
Study Mode
Day release (1 day per week).
An additional half day may be required for apprentices working towards English & Maths achievement.
Entry Requirements
Minimum requirement: GCSE English and Maths at Grade 2, or Functional Skills English and Maths at Entry Level 3.
Apprentices who have not yet achieved Level 2 in English and Maths must continue working towards a Level 2 qualification, or an equivalent, in both subjects.

Occupation Summary
This occupation encompasses various private and public settings, such as day care, children’s centres, and hospitals, focusing on delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements for children from birth to five years. The role involves directly engaging with children to support planning and delivering activities, purposeful play, and educational programmes. An Early Years Practitioner (EYP) works as part of a professional team, ensuring children's welfare and care under the supervision of an Early Years Educator or qualified professional.
Course Overview
The Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship equips individuals with essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours to support the development of children from birth to age 5. Practitioners learn about child development, safeguarding, health and safety regulations, and the importance of holistic development, including cognitive, emotional, and social growth. They develop skills to create engaging learning experiences, promote healthy lifestyles, and ensure a safe environment for children. Emphasising teamwork, communication, and partnership with parents, this apprenticeship nurtures a commitment to professional practice and continuous improvement. Graduates are well-prepared to make a positive impact in the lives of young children and their families, paving the way for future career advancement in the early years sector.

End Point Assessment
The Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final assessment an apprentice must complete to successfully finish their apprenticeship.
The End Point Assessment for this standard consists of the following elements:
- Knowledge test
- Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio
Progression Opportunities
With the skills, knowledge, and experience gained, you can begin your career as an Early Years Practitioner, with opportunities to work as an assistant childminder, nanny, or nursery assistant.
You can also progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship as an Early Years Educator.
