About the course

This is an excellent course for increasing self-confidence, communication and performance skills. It will provide a foundation for further study in this field and possible progression to a career in the performing arts industry. This qualification will give you a broad experience and understanding of performing arts as a collaborative activity and prepares you for the reality of working in the sector. 

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grades 3 or equivalent and minimum Level 1 diagnostic in Maths and English. A satisfactory pass at NVQ 1 or Introductory Diploma. Interview and audition required.

How much does it cost?

Courses are free to 16-18 year olds. 19+ learners may be eligible for financial help.

Workshops, trips, work experience and uniform could be up to £150 for the year.

Why study?

There will be a mixture of performing and production arts skills, giving you a wider variety of knowledge of each discipline to increase understanding of the industry.

Techniques, research and skill building workshops in all performing arts areas; set building/making; painting; rehearsals; directing; choreographing; vocal warm ups; singing; staging and putting on your own show; technical and dress rehearsals; performing; auditions; interviews; marketing and publicity; FOH; collaborative meetings; guides for open evening; visiting local and west end shows; health and safety inductions; rigging/operating technical equipment.

This is a perfect opportunity to further your knowledge and understanding and progress onto the Level 3 in your chosen area.

Where will this course take me?

Progress onto Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts or Music or onto an Apprenticeship or into employment.

How will I be assessed?

The production of a portfolio; performances; apps like Showbie; designs; projects; viva voca; There will be 9 units over the year. The overall grade for the Level 2 Diploma is determined by the student’s achievement in Unit 9: Producing and performing to an Audience (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

Will I have to provide anything?

Pens, pencils, diary, highlighters, paper/notebook. You will need to bring comfortable clothing and indoor footwear. Uniform could be up to £75 for the year.

For West End theatre trips, workshops and visits, students will need to pay £150 for the year or £50 per term.
