WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

If you were inspired by the heroics of England’s World Cup team at the World Cup Finals in Russia, then a career in the sport and leisure industry could be for you. We’ll teach you great leadership and management skills that can be transferred across many industries. You will also have the opportunity to experience a variety of trips, visits and residentials. Gym membership and access to the Leisurezone is included when you enrol.

WHAT WILL I DO?

The courses are a mixture of theory and practical units, designed to provide you with a detailed understanding of sports industries. You will develop key generic ‘life’ skills, which would strengthen an application for a variety of roles and careers. Students will also attend NCS (National Citizen Service) where they will participate in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities, as well as a community project.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Opportunities to continue studies at higher education or undertake an Apprenticeship. Students will also be prepared for employment in the following areas: sports coaching, fitness instruction, sports development and leisure/sports assistant.

Gym Instructing Certificate – Full-time

The qualification is based on the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) professional standards for instructing gym based exercise. Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to pre-screen clients and check their readiness to exercise, health and safety and induct individuals and small groups to gym equipment.They will also plan and instruct gym-based exercise programmes. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team working skills and research skills will also be developed.

Personal Training Level 3

This qualification is designed to provide the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to work as a Personal Trainer in a variety of settings. This qualification supports progression into employment or self-employment as a Personal Trainer. The qualification will enable learners to become qualified Personal Trainers, ready to make a positive contribution to the workplace and to the health and well-being of a broad range of clients with different needs, in different types of environment. The qualification is mapped to the CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) Personal Trainer Professional Standard. This qualification has also been aligned to the Personal Trainer apprenticeship standard and could be used to support delivery of the apprenticeship.

Sport & Exercise Sciences Extended Diploma

This course is ideal if you are interested in the sport and leisure industry and enjoy sport and physical activity with an opportunity of specialising in sports at university.

Funding Your Course

If you're aged 19 or over and you want to study A Levels, an Access to Higher Education Diploma, or a Level 3 to 6 Vocational Qualification, you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.
